2015 Winter Newsletter:

Global Giving:

Global Giving is a website that allows nonprofit organizations to spread their programs and raise funds across the internet. Anyone with an internet connection can donate to any charity on Global Giving’s website, which is what makes Global Giving so unique and helpful to growing charities and nonprofit groups.

Thanks to you, we made it! K4AK secured a permanent spot on Global Giving! Between September 1st and September 15th, we raised over $5700 from over 40 donors!

Global Giving also ran a promotion during the week of September 20th. Every donation to K4AK was equally matched by an anonymous donor. During the bonus week, we raised an additional $165!

Now that we secured a permanent spot on Global Giving, we unlocked the special features Global Giving offers its permanent charities. We can now start “mini-projects” that each have individual targets to fund different plans, like the saffron garden and library.

2015 Tour de Ville:

Northville is a small town in Michigan’s Wayne County. This year the Northville Rotary Club is hosting the Tour de Ville -a biking marathon that took place on Sunday, September 20th, 2015. All the participants enjoyed biking along a scenic 10, 30 or 75 mile course that started in downtown Northville. The 2015 event is the second Tour de Ville. On the 10 mile course, entrants biked down a historic path that took them south through Northville and the Old Village of Plymouth, another metro-Detroit town. The five mile route wound through two parks, twisted around two lakes and finished in Plymouth’s Riverside Park, where riders then turned around and headed back to the starting point in in downtown Northville, totaling 10 miles. The 30 mile course followed the five mile path as well but continued for another 10 miles after the five mile path ended. The continued route turned east and followed Michigan’s Rouge River, a lengthy river with many tributaries. When the 15 mile path ended, entrants also turned around and biked back to the starting point. The lengthy 75 mile course branches off in a southern direction until it reaches its destination on Grosse Ile, and reverted back towards the starting point after it reached Grosse Ile.

Through the participation of all its bikers, the Tour de Ville donated all of its proceeds to charities and nonprofit organizations. K4AK participated with the event.

Northville's 2015 Victorian Festival:

The Victorian Festival is a classic Northville event. The 2015 festival coincided with the Tour de Ville and was held from Friday, September 18th to Sunday September 20th. It is also the 27th Victorian Festival to be held, and included many fun filled attractions: a parade, carnival, shows, performers and more. Horse drawn carriages and traditional bicycles with enormous front wheel are displayed in the parades to celebrate Northville’s rich history.

Tents and booths also line the lanes, selling food, drinks and crafts. The streets of Northville’s downtown not only packed with entertainers and vendors, but hundreds of people attend the event each year. K4AK rented a booth and sold chocolate covered Oreos ® and other drinks. We raised over 700 dollars this year!
